Important Dates and Deadlines

Exam Applications
We must receive your completed exam application package (application forms and payment) for the RPF take- home exam by January 16. For the sit-down exam, we will start accepting completed exam application packages in mid-May with applications forms and payment due no later than August 15th. [more]

Exam Date & Locations
The sit-down registration exams are held on the first Friday of October in various locations throughout the province. Registration exams are only held once a year except in special cases where extreme circumstances prevent a candidate from writing the regularly scheduled exam. Refer to the Special Registration Exam Policy for more details.

RPF Take-Home Registration Exam
The take-home exam is a requirement for all RPF candidates. The take home exam provides a test of each candidate’s skills in writing and reasoning.

Applications to write the take-home exam are accepted until the day the exam questions are released. The exam questions are generally released mid -January and exam papers must be submitted by end of February. The passing mark for the exam is set at 60%.

All RPF candidates are required to pass both take-home and sit-down exams.

RPF Sit-Down Registration Exam
The sit-down exam requires candidates to answer four of seven questions over a four hour time allotment. The exams are based on questions designed to test the candidates understanding of professionalism (ethics) and forest policy. The exam is held on the first Friday in October. The passing mark for the sit-down exam is set at 60%.

All RPF candidates are required to pass both take-home and sit-down exams.

RFT Registration Exam
Candidates who are either Trainee Forest Technologist (TFT) or Allied Science Trainee Forest Technologist (ASTFT) members are required to successfully complete the RFT exam. The RFT sit-down exam requires candidates to answer four of seven questions over a four hour time allotment. The exams are based on questions designed to test the candidates understanding of professionalism (ethics) and forest policy.

The old Part A and Part B format will be maintained for conditional RFTs. Both types of exams will continue to be held on the first Friday in October. The passing mark for all exams is set at 60%.

Preparing to Write the Exam
Many exam candidates begin studying up to a year or more in advance of writing the exam. We offer a number of resources designed to help you prepare for the exam including: past exams with sample answers, a resource library, study hypothesis, resources for starting a study group and the Policy Review Seminar Guide. Getting Your Exam Results
After your exam has been marked and the list of successful candidates has been approved by council, the registration department will send each exam candidate an e-mail with a URL to the exam results.

You will need to click on the URL and login with your ABCFP logon name and password to see the web page that contains your mark. You will not have access to anyone else’s results. Sit-down exam results will be available in mid-November and the take-home exam results will be released in mid-April.

Please contact the Registration Dept if you have not received your exam results after two weeks from the exam release date.
